Ping on server

Hi all!

Since few days, when I am connected on DooC server, I have an enormous ping (500 to 999ms). I do not understand... I download at ~400 kb/s... I have set all parameter in hidden menu but nothing going better...

An idea?

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, with the last version of ET.

processor : Turion 64b
graphic card : radeon xpress200m
Ram : 3gb

When I ping server on console, pong is about 50 to 60ms.

Hi!

I've set all graphical parameters to low or disable, and set connexion at DSL (yes it is! oO) I tried to use standard config but nothing change.. I have reset all drivers of my wifi card and graphic card , I've always this fucking monster ping.. It is incredible...

I set max packet to 60, Rate to 15000 and max fps to 55 (yeahhh i've "only" 400ms wooo)

you have this probs only on dooc-server?
what is your connection typ: dsl speed and do you use wlan or kabel connecting?

set your rate to 25000
max packets to 76 - 100
fps to 76

No, i've this problem with several servers.
I'm connected on a wifi spot at university. Last week, all worked good but since few days i've this enormour ping.
(I use wlan)

Could you start ET in windowed mode and ping the server via console while on the server?
And then see if the console ping increases as well?

As the ping via console is that much lower it’s either that any of your hardware or bandwidth is at it’s limit (with WIFI it could also be error-rate / dropped packets),
or maybe your university lowers priority or throttles packages on higher ports.

As you said Kissaki (and thanks for your reply), i start ET and have connected it on DooC server, return to console and ping : same results on console : i've a good ping ( ~55ms) and on ET 700 to 999.

Yesterday, i played with gauki and i had a low ping (~70ms).... I really do not understand...

I think the connection of university is equally distributed between all connected... If it is the problem there's nothing to do. Even so there is 52 wifi spots and we are ~650 students...

You could ask your network administration whether specific ports or protocols are throttled, always or on higher network load.

Mh, I’m not quite sure you have to have that port open. You can play after all as well.
But maybe not only is that port closed to incoming msgs, but maybe also throttled for outgoing traffic.
Anyway, it’s a network problem with your university network setup … Hmm …
